Haverhill, MA: Irwin Talbot, Jr., 94, of Haverhill and former longtime resident of Cranston, RI for fifty-five years, died on December 26, 2014 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born, raised, and educated in East Providence, RI, son of the late Irwin and Ida (Mayor) Talbot, Mr. Talbot graduated from East Providence High School with the Class of 1935. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operation during World War II from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Talbot was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Talbot returned to his job at Narragansett Electric and retired as electrician supervisor in 1985 after forty years of service.
Mr. Talbot served as a Deacon at Phillips Memorial Baptist Church in Cranston, RI for many years before moving to Haverhill, where he became a member of the West Congregational Church. He was also a member of the King Solomon Lodge of Masons in East Greenwich, CT and was past president and longtime member of the supporters of the Rhode Island Youth Philharmonic. He also served as Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 5 Narragansett Council for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen M. (Hentz) Talbot, and his son, Richard J. Talbot, and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Danea Talbot of Haverhill, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan H. and Dominick Anzalotti of East Longmeadow, MA, and two grandchildren, Andrew R. Talbot and his wife Jillian of Haverhill, and Evan M. Talbot of Haverhill.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Talbot's memorial service on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the West Congregational Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. Burial with the rendering of military honors will take place on Monday in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
