Irene Kietbin Luu

May 6, 1956 — January 21, 2025

Irene Luu, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and unwavering faith. Born in Vietnam, Irene was the daughter of Ky Luu 劉奇 and Binh Ho 胡萍. She was the third of eight brothers and sisters. Binh Ho 胡萍 served as the head nurse at Chung Chinh Hospital. Her family owned and operated the Vinh Sanh 永生 general store, meaning "Eternal Life."

From a young age, Irene was a precocious, vibrant, and sociable spirit. She excelled in school, where her enthusiasm and charm made her a favorite among teachers and peers. During the Vietnam war, her family fled and became refugees, staying for 8 months in Malaysia at a refugee camp. It wasn’t until the Twin Cities Chinese Church in Minnesota sponsored her family to come to the United States. In the summer of 1979, she along with her family landed in Minnesota and started a new life. After immigrating, Irene attended the University of Minnesota and entered the nursing profession just like her mom, demonstrating a commitment to caring for others. Later, she obtained a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Azusa Pacific University and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), dedicating her career to serving those with mental health needs with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. She maintained a private practice, continuing to serve those in need after retiring from LA County.

Irene's deep faith was a cornerstone of her life. While growing up in Vietnam, she was actively involved in church gatherings and also played the mandolin in a church musical group. She attended Passion Bread of Life International Church, located in Anaheim. And over the course of 15 years as a congregant, Irene was involved in the children’s ministry, worship team, and evangelism group. Her love for the Lord deepened over time, and she eagerly shared God's love with everyone she encountered.

As a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt, Irene cherished her family. She was known for her generosity and bright, indomitable spirit. She remembered birthdays, brought gifts and balloons, and will be remembered most for bringing those close to her together. Her warmth, joy, and genuine care touched the lives of countless people. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her memory will be forever cherished.
