Sue Kreger passed away on Tuesday, June 16,2026 at the age of 91. Born Irene Sue Gustafson, she was raised by her parents Carl and Sis on Hepburn Avenue in Los Angeles, California.
She married Keith Shirey while attending USC where she received her Degree and had two children, Mark Shirey and Cindy Miller. She married a second time and wed Larry Kreger in 1991 with whom she remained married until his passing in 2025. She is also survived by her three stepdaughters Carol, Diane and Donna.
Her pride and Joy were her Grandchildren, including Jake, Katrina, Ben, Sara, Shelby, Bridget and Rebecca. She also had three Great Grandchildren, Will, Hana and Eva. She enjoyed a successful career and worked for over 35 years in the banking industry where she held many positions and retired as a Loan Officer.
She was a beloved member of her community and many of her children’s friends considered her to be like a second Mom. She made everyone feel loved and welcome. Her caregivers who took care of her over the last two years also formed a strong bond with Sue. She was also an active member in the West Covina Women’s club taking on many roles including President where she formed lasting friendships to this day.
Her family will most remember her for always being there with an encouraging word of advice and for spearheading annual family vacations at Dana Point & Laguna Beach for over 45 years with up to 21 family members making treasured memories. She made their house a home with home cooked dinners on the table every night after a long day’s work and hosting family holidays. Sue and Larry also enjoyed trips up the coast to Northern California, attending Oktoberfest’s, taking up a new hobby camping later in life and of course, she was an avid USC football fan.
She will be missed dearly, but her presence will always be felt.
