Irene Vaquera Garcia

Irene Vaquera Garcia, born June 9, 1931 in Hillsboro, Texas, peacefully passed away in her home of 68 years in Burbank, California surrounded by her family on March 7, 2021. Irene will be interred next to her husband of 54 years, Ramiro Garcia, who preceded her into the gates of heaven in 2006. Irene leaves her three children, their spouses and four grandchildren all who live in California; additionally three younger brothers living in Texas, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family throughout the United States, and so many friends.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Irene was deeply involved in the lives of her children, their schooling, and her grandchildren -- involved to a degree that Irene was on a first name basis with her grandchildren's significant others, their friends and even co-workers. The expanse of Irene's influence on her grandchildren can readily be seen in the outpouring of sympathy and memories shared by those who, in some cases never met Irene, but knew her through her grandchildren. Perhaps unbeknownst to Irene, beyond family and friends, did she create a constellation of people who all marveled at stories of her strength, verve and levity. Irene never stopped teaching her children and grandchildren through her loving care, her deeds and words.

Irene shared her love of family history with her family and friends. She was the family genealogist and the "go-to" encyclopedia of knowledge regardless of the subject matter. Irene instilled the importance of stewardship and the value of civic-mindedness through her involvement with Burbank elections for over 3 decades as well as being a devoted and active member of Little White Chapel Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Burbank for over 60 years.

Irene's presence was felt when she entered a room --- she was the Original Influencer. Our true matriarch, her love and wisdom gives us solace; her strength and influence continue to guide us. Donations in Irene's memory may be given to a charity of choice or to her church, Little White Chapel Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1711 N. Avon Street, Burbank , CA 91505.

Gravesite interment is scheduled for April 16, 2021. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.
