Irene Eleanor Apollo was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 25, 1932 where she spent the first thirteen years of her life. In 1945, along with her parents Ralph and Louise Sepe, and brothers Anthony (Tony) and Albert, moved to Los Angeles, California. Irene attended Hollywood High School where she met the love of her life, the gentle, blue-eyed Bruce Apollo. They both worked at Capitol Records in Hollywood and were married in 1953. Irene and Bruce honeymooned in Las Vegas, which became a regular destination for them. In a span of 10 years they raised five children: Luisa, Michael, Margie, Teresa and Maria. This is where Irene's greatest purpose in life was fulfilled.
Over the years the five Apollo children were educated in Catholic schools and enjoyed numerous family vacations and celebrations. Irene's fabulous Italian cooking, which included linguine and clams, mostaccioli with meat sauce and good ol' spaghetti and meatballs were some of the family favorites.
In addition to raising the five kids full-time, while keeping house, gardening and cooking, Irene was very active in Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish. She was a devout Catholic, going to Mass every Sunday, and often to afternoon rosaries and evening novenas. She sang in the choir for many years. Irene also volunteered her time in the school's Mothers' Club and annual fall festivals.
Her beloved husband, Bruce, passed away in 1994, followed by Irene's mother and father in the next two years. In addition to her five children she leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Ian, Alex, Steven, Christina, Jack and Miles, and 3 sons-in-law: John, Xavier and Peter. She is also survived by her devoted and supportive companion of the past 24 years, Willum.
Irene was gracious, loving and kind to all who knew her and is now with Our Lord. She is dearly loved, cherished and missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on November 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 2060 N. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, followed by internment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale.
