Hortencia "Tencha" Betancourt, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted servant of God, peacefully passed away on May 6, 2025, in Glendale, CA. Born on October 13, 1945, in Hidalgo, TX, Tencha touched the lives of everyone around her with her warm comforting love and unwavering faith. Her spirit and kindness will remain forever in our hearts.
Tencha was a proud mother to four children Jaime Minutti (Rosario), Raul Minutti (Nohemi), Elvis Minutti (Nichelle) and Tereza Razo (Fernando). They were the light of her life, and she took immense joy in watching them grow into adulthood, witnessing their achievements and dreams unfold. Her pride expanded even further with the arrival of her seven cherished grandchildren: Michael Minutti, James Minutti, Alec Minutti, Alegra Minutti, Sierra Minutti, Adrian Miranda, and Khloe Miranda.
Tencha was not only a mother but also an amazing storyteller. She embraced her family with beautiful tales filled with love and laughter, sharing cherished memories of her upbringing with her beloved parents and siblings. Her stories were a testament to her rich life experiences, always conveying the importance of faith and family to ensure we kept our beloved memories close to our hearts including family roots from Durango MEX to Texas, USA.
An expert in the kitchen, Tencha's cooking was a source of comfort and joy for her children, grandchildren, and the neighborhood kids. Many will fondly remember the delicious homemade meals. Tencha kept of Buelita’s savory recipes alive by sharing and creating these recipes with her family. Some of the favorites included her famous fresh tortillas, salsas, pancakes, huevos rancheros, menudo, tamales, arroz con pollo, chili verde, chili rellenos, rice, beans, Mexican hot dogs, and flavorful fresh fruit jugo just to name a few of the many. The aroma of her creations wafting through the house often signaled the warmth of family gatherings, holidays, and school vacations. She delighted in making her delectable Mexican and American dishes, ensuring everyone had a good meal and felt loved.
Tencha's creative spirit extended beyond cooking. She was a gifted designer and seamstress. She customized clothing for herself and her family. Her skillful hands created beautiful quilts, delicate teacup candles, and crystal-beaded crosses, all crafted with love. Her cherished hobbies, including refinishing furniture, collecting vintage sewing machines, homemade pinatas for her grandchild’s birthdays, and designing floral arrangements, for loved ones and her business in Lincoln Heights.
Tencha had a career as a blueprint machine operator for Disney, Librascope, and Singer. She was responsible for printing the blueprints for the EPCOT Center at the Walt Disney World in Florida. Her time at Disney allowed for many family trips to Disneyland in, California.
In addition to her many roles and talents, Tencha's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She frequently shared her blessings with family, by saying, "I love you; God bless you, amen Mijito's" ensuring her loved ones felt the divine grace she carried within her. Her devotion to God was evident in everything she did, reflecting her belief that love, faith, and family were paramount.
Tencha leaves behind her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion, which will be carried on by her children, grandchildren, and sisters, Rita, Reyna, and Angela. She was predeceased by her parents, Santiago Del Rio Betancourt and Petra Lozano de Betancourt, and her siblings Santiago Jr. "Chago," Sabina, Vicente, and Francisca "Kika".
Family and friends are invited to honor Tencha's memory at the visitation on June 10, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn - Coachella - Mortuary Chapel. Together, let us celebrate the beautiful life of Hortencia "Tencha" Betancourt, embracing the love she imparted to each of us as we reflect on the legacy of a remarkable woman who devoted her life to her family and her faith in God.
