Hope Lucille Carlson

April 8, 1922 — July 27, 2014

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Hope Carlson.

Hope Carlson, 92, of Thousand Oaks, CA. died on Sunday July 27, 2014 surrounded by loved ones holding hands in prayer. She was born Hope Lucille Putnam on April 8, 1922 in Berwyn, IL to her parents William Parsons Putnam and Frieda Willhemina Reuss. She lived in many places throughout her life, including Illinois, Florida and Nebraska, then her family moved to California in 1953, spending the majority of her time in Thousand Oaks, CA. She was preceded in death by her sister Faith, her mother and father, and her husband Glenn Carlson.

When Hope was younger she was a member of Job's Daughters, and was a Past Honored Queen. During her time in Job's Daughters she met her future husband Glenn Carlson. Hope Putnam married Glenn Arthur Carlson on January 16, 1943. During her thirties, when her kids were all in school, she decided to go back to school herself. She continued to seek her degree even after moving back to Nebraska, where she was the only one in her age group attending the University. After moving back to California, through hard work and determination, she graduated from San Fernando State College, now CSUN, obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Education. She became a Kindergarten teacher, teaching at Calahan Street Elementary School in Northridge, CA. for over 20 years. Hope was also a long-time member of the Forest Home Women's Auxiliary.

Hope loved to sing and dance, and was interested in shopping in antique stores and garage sales, collecting dolls, knitting and crocheting, and playing cards. She also loved watching old movie classics.

Hope was a beautiful woman with a strong faith, positive attitude, sense of humor, wisdom, loving heart, incomparable kindness to others, and the patience of a Saint. She took great pleasure in the joys and triumphs in the lives of those she loved, and was always there to comfort and support through the tough times. She was a living example of God's love.

She is survived by her three children, Gary Carlson and his wife Cynthia, Gay Goodman and her husband Tom, and Aleta Oglesby, her three grandchildren, Scott Goodman, Brian Oglesby and Glenn Goodman, and her two great-grandchildren, Kinley and Ryder Oglesby. Her extended family included Mark, Kelly, Wyndi and William Lindauer, Susan Mercer and her children Laurel, Alan and Michael Fantauzzo.
