In Loving Memory of Hilda Leal Treviño
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hilda Leal Treviño on June 2, 2025. She was born on January 13, 1941, in China, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Aurelio and Aurora Leal. At the age of 12, Hilda moved to Texas and proudly became a U.S. citizen when she turned 18.
Hilda earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in History from Pan American University, and later completed a Master’s Degree in Education from the same institution. She devoted over 30 years to teaching, finding immense joy and purpose in primary school education. Her commitment to her students left a lasting impact on generations of young learners.
After retiring from the classroom, Hilda continued to inspire others by co-founding a yoga studio with two friends, where she spent five years sharing her passion for health and wellness. She also authored two children’s books, adding “published author” to her list of meaningful accomplishments.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Hilda was actively involved with Saint Patrick’s Church in Laredo, Texas where she spent most of her adult life. Following the passing of her beloved husband of 58 years, Hilda made the courageous decision to relocate to Corona, California, to be closer to her eldest son and his family.
Hilda will be remembered for her compassion, optimism, and wonderful sense of humor—qualities that made her an exceptional teacher and a treasured friend to many.
She is survived by her sons, Omar (Julie) Treviño and Marco Treviño; her beloved granddaughters, Adriana Treviño and Gabrielle Treviño; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aurelio and Aurora Leal; her husband, Jose Treviño; and her brothers, Aurelio Jr. and Leonel Leal.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Heritage at Forest Lawn – Covina Hills in Covina, California. Guests are encouraged to meet directly at the church; doors will open at 9:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family niche on the cemetery grounds.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Hilda’s honor to Casa Misericordia (Laredo, TX), Mercy Ministries (Laredo), or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
