Hermogenes E. Escoto

February 26, 1918 — February 21, 2013

Hermogenes Ernesto Escoto Mayorga was born February 26, 1918 in Leon, Nicaragua. He died February 21, 2013 in Redlands, California. He was the youngest of six siblings. When he was 2 years old he lost his mother, Francisca, whom he never forgot. He and his brothers and sisters were blessed with a father who dedicated his whole life to insured that they had a good family life and to reared them to be good Christians and citizens. He also had the good fortune to have his maternal aunt, whom he called "Little Mother Valentina". She dedicated her life to keep her promise to her sister, to help race her nephews and nieces. Since he was very young he combined his two passions, music and farming. When he was very young he belong to a group of musicians in which he played the guitar and the mandolin. This path led to him meeting the love of his life, Ana, whom he later married and lived with for 70 years. Together they had 8 children (3 boys and 5 girls). Once married, his whole life was dedicated to be the best husband and father. He supported his wife in all her endeavors: mother, wife, and teacher, principal of the school, Christian, leader of the community. Within his capabilities he supported economically and morally the community and church. He was an honest man, a great father, husband, son, and a good friend. Over the years he extended his love, friendship, support, and protection to his relatives and to all who asked for his help. It was not uncommon to hear it said "he is like my father". He was a quite man, but also a wise man, not only in everyday things, but also in biblical knowledge. He learned and study the bible at the side of his brother in law, Peter married to his sister Sarah, who was a Pastor. Protestant Churches were not accepted in those days as Catholicism was prevalent in our culture. This circumstances help shaped and grow his character along with his wife, who died 8 years ago. They applied all their knowledge and love towards the benefit of all their children. He was the protector of his family, an excellent adviser, who guided with love, not only his children, but also his 32 grand-children, 29 great-grand-children, and 3 great-great-grand-children until the end of his life. He will be greatly missed.
