Henry S. Hendler (Hank) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April, 30 1922. His mother, Olga, and older brother Jack moved to L.A. when Hank was quite young. He graduated from L.A. High and attended the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. He served in the Navy during World War ll in the South Pacific. He studied business administration and sub-tropical horticulture at the University of California at Los Angeles. Hank was a private entrepreneur in farming, livestock, and the meat packing industry both domestically and internationally. Subsequently he became the divisional president and senior vice-president of the International Operation of Ward Foods. He served on a technical assistance mission for the UN Industrial Development Organization at the request of the Government of Israel. He was Deputy Assistant Administrator for Population and Humanitarian Assistance out of Washington D.C. He also served as President of the American Sheep Company and the California Feed Corporation and as Chairman of the Board of Capital Reserve Corporation, a diversified management company engaged in financial services, housing and food distribution. He was Chairman of the Board of American Magnetics, a member of the Young President's Organization (YPO) as well as the World Business Council. Hank was appointed to the advisory council on Business Enterprise Development and Entrepreneurship at USC Graduate School of Business. He lectured at the school often and loved to mentor young students. He had numerous real estate holdings in California and he converted some apartments to condominiums in the Los Angeles area. He had interests in oil companies; primarily in Oklahoma. He frequented the desert many years and made it his primary home over twenty years ago. Hank served as President of the Board at the Foundation for the Retarded, now known as Desert ARC. He loved cars, his Harley Davidson and his speed boat at his summer home in Lake Arrowhead. He enjoyed playing tennis, singing, DANCING and loved entertaining friends and family in his homes. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen. He has three daughters; Karen, Victoria and Nancy as well as two grandchildren Arlene and Tayler. He is preceded in death by his mother and brother Jack. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at noon at Forest Lawn Mortuary with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cathedral City, Calif.
