Hampstead, NH: Henry L. "Hank" Barry, 84, of Hampstead, died following a long illness, on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at his home, with his family by his side.
Born in North Andover, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Julia (Perry) Barry and was educated in North Andover and Lawrence. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, China Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 1 Star.
A lineman and sixty-five year member of Local 104 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, he was employed by several of the local power companies and retired as a foreman from the MBTA after twenty four years of service. He also owned and operated Hank's Chimney Sweep and Stove Shop from his home in Hampstead for twenty years.
A member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead, he was a longtime volunteer for the New Hampshire Special Olympics and was active as the Wagon Master for the New Hampshire Chapter of the Good Sam Club.
Mr. Barry was devoted to his family and enjoyed playing cards, bike riding, camping, traveling in his R.V. and square dancing as a member of the Kingston Firesiders.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-one years, Charlotte M. (Cross) Barry, a son, Henry L. "Hank" Barry, Jr. and his wife Karen of Atkinson, two daughters, Debbie A. Ball and her husband Alan of Londonderry, and Cheryl Hill of Hampstead, a brother John Barry and his wife Mary, of Arizona, two sisters, Sr. Florence Joseph (Margaret Flaherty) of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Holbrook,MA, and Joan Harty of Barre, MA, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Jocelyn Winters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Barry's Life Celebration to be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will take place on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead.
