Helen Louise Salzer

June 6, 1917 — March 28, 2015

Helen Louise Salzer passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of March 28, 2015 at the age of 97. For all of us who knew her, we all can agree Helen was a wonderful woman filled with tremendous strength, fortitude and character.
Helen was born on June 6, 1917. She was the daughter to Charles and Cornelia Heil of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In the early 1950's Helen and her husband Eugene Jacob Salzer began to grow weary of sleet and snow. So they decided pack up their belongings and family to head west, in search of sunshine and orange blossoms. They settled in comfortably and made their home in Sepulveda, California.
After the death of her beloved husband Eugene in 1980. She moved from the San Fernando Valley to the Ventura Marina Mobile Home Park. There she made countless numbers of friends and created many wonderful memories.
During her rich life Helen never seemed to sit still as she was always actively involved in numerous activities; in her early days she volunteered her time with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, you will find her name engraved on the silver punch bowl in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion; a member of the Women's Division of the Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce and in 2000 she was recognized and honored for her many years of service by being named "Special Events Lady of the Year"; served with the Women's Republican Club of Ventura; member the Women's Auxiliary at Community Memorial Hospital.
Helen's life long love of dance and performing came to complete fruition in her golden years. As she became part of a senior dance group called "Tapping Tempos." Her passion was evident when she performed at countless events in Ventura County throughout the years. On Sunday mornings you would always find Helen sitting in the second pew of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a devoted member for over 30 years and took a great pride in her deep faith of our Lord.
Helen will greatly be missed by her family; son Adrian (Joanne) Salzer, daughters Maxine (Larry) Nafie, Christine Salzer-Floyd; grandchildren Heather Salzer-DeVito and Kevin Salzer, Angie and Robby Nafie, Allison and Amber Floyd; great grandchild Cayden DeVito and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Helen's honor to Trinity Lutheran Church 196 North Ashwood, Ventura, CA 93003.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 3rd at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 South Glendale Avenue, Glendale with Pastor Dave Hall officiating.
