Haverhill, MA:  Helen Velma (Dufresne) Chartier, 88, of Haverhill, MA, formerly of Homestead Street and Hilldale Avenue, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 3, 2013.

Born in Haverhill, MA, the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Mary (Lavoie) Dufresne, she attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Haverhill High School, with the class of 1941.

Mrs. Chartier was a housewife and homemaker and, in her younger years, she worked for former Western Electric Company, North Andover, MA.  She was a member of All Saints Church, the Ladies of Ste. Anne Society and the Third Order of Mary.  She was an avid bingo player who enjoyed wood burning, sewing, embroidery and crafts.

The wife of the late Roland Chartier, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Kristi Chartier of Marysville, WA; four daughters Mary Kane and her husband Raymond of Sandown, NH, Theresa Chartier and her fianc Roy Smith of Wheeling, West Virginia, Cathy Spaulding and her fianc Douglas "Skeeter"' Rouse of Merrimac, MA, and Sharron Duggan and her fianc Anthony Smithey of Pelham, NH; a sister, Lucille Boucher of Northwood, NH; nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by a son,Richard Anthony Chartier, a son, Ronald G. Chartier who died in 1998; a daughter, Sandra Doucette who died in 1994; and two brothers Leonard Dufresne and Roland Dufresne.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, January 6, 2013, from 1- 4 pm at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., (Plaistow Village), Plaistow, NH.  Her funeral will begin on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 AM at All Saints Church, Haverhill, MA.  Burial will take place at a later date in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, NH.

Donations may be made in her name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street Lawrence, MA 01843, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 114 Perimeter Road Nashua, NH 03063, and Bethany Homes, 10 Phoenix Row Haverhill, MA 01832.
