In Loving Memory of Heidi Luz R. DeGuzman (1953-2026)
Heidi Luz R. DeGuzman, known for her sharp mind and a steady presence for her family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. She was admired for her wit, strength, and determination, and she lived her life with compassion, dedication, and warmth.
Born at St. Luke's Hospital in Manila, Philippines, on November 16, 1953, Heidi was the youngest of five children of Fabian and Felipa Roxas. She began her education at Santa Isabel College, attending from pre-kindergarten through high school. Later, she studied at the University of Santo Tomas, where she earned a B.S. in Medical Technology from the College of Pharmacy and passed the board exam in September 1974.
Heidi’s career steadily advanced as she served as Executive Secretary to the Medical Director at De Los Santos Medical Center and later joined Johnson & Johnson Philippines. In 1980, she bravely moved to the U.S. and worked at leading medical centers in Los Angeles, including LA County-USC and UCLA. Drawing on her experience, she started AccuMed Transcription Services in 1988, where she served as Director of Operations and Head Medical Transcriptionist for over 20 years.
While she achieved much professionally, her family was always most important to her. Her greatest joy was being a devoted wife to her late husband, Ezer "Jojo" DeGuzman, whom she married in 1982 in Reno. She was a caring and supportive mom to Bernadette, Cherry, and Dodie, and the coolest beloved “Mama” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For Heidi, home was defined by the presence of her loved ones. Though often busy and sometimes chaotic, life at home was filled with laughter and love. She met every challenge with quiet strength and resilience.
Heidi is lovingly remembered by her three children, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two older sisters, her extended family, and many friends and colleagues whose lives she touched. Her humor, generosity, perseverance, and spirit will be deeply missed. Her dedication to those she loved will always be remembered. She remains in our hearts forever.
To honor her life, we invite you to share stories—the funnier, the better—or messages for the eulogy on the Entries page under Guestbook, or give them to us directly.
Please join us to remember and celebrate Heidi’s life:
