Héctor G. Valenzuela

Héctor Guillermo Valenzuela (64), resident of Los Angeles County, California, bravely battled cancer and passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Héctor was born in November 1958, in Jalapa, Guatemala. He was raised by a loving family including his mother, his grandmother, and his uncle. These prominent figures instilled principles that he practiced every day—lifelong learning, dedication to craft, faith in God, centering family, and service to others.

Héctor was taught to rise early each day to tackle the duties at hand. He found joy in completing and perfecting a task. His hardworking nature and inquisitive mind benefitted his work and artistic hobbies. He could repair everything, from a hem to a car to wood flooring. Héctor was an Electronic Technician for more than forty years and owned William’s Repair Shop where he fixed all things coin-operated including arcade games, vending machines, and jukeboxes.

Héctor was a man of unshakeable faith. He viewed his relationship with God as a powerful tool to problem solve, cope, express gratitude, and connect with his family and community. Héctor loved studying scripture and canonical texts to strengthen his knowledge and spirituality. He led by example and served as an impactful leader among his fellow church members.

Being a father was one of the most important roles in Héctor’s life. He worked hard to pass down the values he was taught as a child while incorporating his own teachings. Héctor taught his children to see the beauty in all things, from the tiniest flower to the awe-inspiring crescendo of an orchestra and to identify personal passions that sustain both financial and internal fulfillment. Héctor is survived by his wife, three children, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brothers. Héctor prided himself in serving as a mentor and father-figure for many, meaning his legacy and impact lives on beyond blood relatives.

Héctor's family will hold a memorial service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Van Nuys on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2pm, a visitation on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11am at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, and a funeral service on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 9:30am at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
