Hector Del Cid

May 15, 1939 — April 7, 2026

On April 7, 2026, Hector Del Cid passed away peacefully next to his devoted wife of 47 years and the mother of his three children, Maria Lourdes. He was about to turn 87.

Hector was a man who displayed exceptional perseverance in what he set his mind to do and loyal commitment to family near and far.

Hector was born on May 15, 1939 in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico. He was the youngest of eight siblings. He emigrated to the United States in the 1960s to be with two of his sisters. Soon after, their parents, Arcelia and Santana, joined. West Hollywood, California became their new home.

In 1978, Hector married the love of his life, Lourdes. Together they raised three children, Arcelia, Hector, Jr., and Elizabeth, who went on to become successful professionals and dedicated parents.

Hector possessed admirable physical and mental strength that was hard to surpass. As a young man in Sonora, he earned a degree in accounting and herded cattle. As a family man in Los Angeles, he worked double shifts as a master tool and die maker, and was a savvy businessman in his leisure.

Nothing stopped Hector. He would spontaneously take his family on road trips throughout California and Mexico to visit extended family for birthdays, weddings, holidays, and moments of sorrow. Negotiating the lowest price for a new car or home was fun for him, so friends often asked Hector to help them close the deal in these high-stakes situations. If you shared your cherished dreams with Hector, he would try his best to make them a reality. His wife and children believed Hector was the real Superman.

Even more than strong, Hector was a model provider and protector. He was a devoted husband and father who after work, routinely took his wife grocery and clothes shopping which was one of their favorite pastimes. Hector attended every school function of his children with video-camera in hand, no matter the time the event was scheduled. He taught his children how to be lawyers without being a lawyer himself as it was important to Hector that the persons he loved most know how to defend themselves as well as others. Without being asked, Hector showed up immediately when someone needed him most.

Hector was grand in his gift giving and displays of affection. He loved to surprise Lourdes on special occasions with rooms full of fresh anthuriums and orchids. On the days before Christmas, Hector would visit every toy store until he found all the items on his children’s letters to Santa. He gave the best of himself.

His happiest times were around his parents, wife, children, and grandchildren Maryssa, Ryder, Bella, Luna and Mia. His love for them was boundless and there was nothing he would not do for them.

Hector’s legacy is that he lived and loved in the moment without reservation. If he was alive today, he would tell everyone to smile, to turn on and turn up the music, to dance, and to celebrate the here and now. No words can capture the profound impression he left in our hearts and minds.

Funeral services in honor and celebration of Hector will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Church of the Recessional in Forest Lawn, located at 1712 South Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Rooms 17 and 18 at Forest Lawn in Glendale. Hector’s parents, sisters and several other family members and friends are also resting at Forest Lawn.

Nada detenía a Héctor.
