Harold Vernon Deckert

Harold Vernon Deckert was born on October 26,1929 in Girard Township, Otter Tail County, MN to Adolph and Bertha (Kneifel) Deckert. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning and attended school in Girard Township, leaving in the 7th grade to work the family farm.

Harold served in the US Army as a Field Wireman from May 19,1954 to May 1, 1956. On June 16,1956 he married the love of his life, Dolly Gerayne Westad at United Lutheran Church of Henning, MN. Shortly after, they moved to Southern California and in 1960 bought their only home where they raised their 3 boys. 

He worked as a barber until 1967 when he changed his career path and worked as a food processor in a small plant until his retirement.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Paul, Laura, Alvina, Madeline, Olga, Anne, Paula, Erna, Alma, Carl; and Dolly, his beloved wife of 67 years, who passed away on November 4, 2023.

He is survived by his 3 sons, Steve (Lisa), Tim (Shona) and Mike (Kebra); grandchildren, Jennifer, Leslie, Brian, Ashley, Austin, Cara, Devin, Tadick and several great grandchildren.

Harold loved to fish, play cards, watch Wheel of Fortune and be a general handyman around the house and at church. He and Dolly were active members at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Buena Park where they made many lifelong friends.

Harold resided in his long time Buena Park home until just before his 95th birthday.  His final days were spent at Eben Haven Board and Care in Menifee CA, where he was called home to his final resting place on December 15, 2024.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 15, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7082 Crescent Ave., Buena Park CA 90620. The time is yet to be determined.
