On July 15 we lost the beautiful Matriarch of our family, Guadalupe Yubeta Terrazas. Mother of 5, grandmother to 9 and great grandmother of 8. And a mother and grandmother to many others. She grew up in Casa Grande, AZ where she attended grade school. When she got older, she LOVED to dance and frequented the Blue Haven, a local dance hall in town, along with others nearby. Big bands were known to play at the dance halls back then. When she spoke of those times her face lit up.
She was a hard worker, started working in the fields with her family at a very young age. The family moved around a lot following the crops for work. They landed up making their home in Bakersfield in the late 1940's. It was there where the Yubeta family met the Terrazas family. In 1952 the families were working in Nipomo where mom and dad met "Cerca del Mar" and later fell in love. They were married on September 4, 1954.
In 1961 our family moved to Los Angeles and have fond memories of our little house on Aaron Street. In 1971 we moved into our forever home. Mom and dad worked very hard to renovate the home and create a home where she always welcomed family and friends. She loved it when family visited and loved a good card game too. She always looked forward to those times. She loved to be outside working in her garden/backyard or sitting in the sun enjoying a book.
Family and God were important to her. We attended church every Sunday and she made sure her children all got baptized, made their holy communion and confirmation. She prayed her rosary every night, even when she wasn't feeling well. Many times, she would fall asleep with the rosary in her hands. I know she had Jesus in her heart. When she lost the love of her life her health started to decline. It was hard to see her slipping away from us, she fought a good fight, but God called her home. I know she is dancing in heaven now with dad and holding on tight to her daughter Sylvia.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ruben R. Terrazas and her beautiful daughter, Sylvia Terrazas; her parents, Maria del Carmen Carranza Yubeta and Augustine Yubeta; sisters Belen Ronquillo and Sarah Zaragoza, brothers Augustine, Fernando and Mike Yubeta. She is survived by her children, Adelaida, Ruben (Kitty), Louie (Leslie), David (Danita); 9 grandchildren, Jeremy (Grace), Ruben (Kristin), Nick (Arlene), Brandon (Esther), Jenna (Victor), Zachary, Sydney, Jared and Jason; 8 great-grandchildren, Noah, Sylvia, Andrew, Milah, Mason, Bodie, Bennett and Connor; and her younger brother Porfirio Yubeta of Bakersfield, and countless number of nieces and nephews in Bakersfield and Arizona.
She was the backbone of our family, devoted wife and mother. Thank you, mom for your unconditional love, guidance and support through all of the phases of our lives. We love you forever and look forward to the day when we see you again!
