Greta McConnell, born on December 19, 1959, entered eternal rest on July 1, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love that will resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. A dedicated registered nurse, Greta devoted 23 years of her career to caring for patients at Kaiser Permanente. Her profound empathy and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others made a significant impact on countless lives.
Greta's educational journey began at Grambling University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her exemplary service extended beyond her nursing career; she proudly served as a reservist in the National Guard of the United States, achieving the rank of 2nd lieutenant. This reflected her indomitable spirit and desire to contribute to her community and country.
Known for her outgoing personality and radiant smile that could light up any room, Greta forged friendships that spanned decades. She was a steadfast friend and a reliable presence for those in need. If you required support, comfort, or simply a listening ear, Greta was always there, ready to uplift and encourage.
Above all her accomplishments, Greta cherished her role as a mom. She took immense pride in her son, Justin Ellis, and her love for him was evident in everything she did. Her relationships with her life partner, Rickey Ellis, and her beloved siblings—Phyllis Gibbs, Cleaster McDonald, Gregory McConnell, and Allen McConnell—were equally meaningful, enriching her life with joy and connection.
Greta had an unquenchable thirst for adventure, enjoying travel and experiencing the world around her. Her zest for life inspired others to embrace each moment fully.
Greta was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Jean McConnell, and her brother, Mitchell McConnell. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on through her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Greta's life will be held on July 25, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills - Church of the Hills in Los Angeles, California. All who were touched by her kindness and light are invited to gather in remembrance of her extraordinary life.
