Gregory Marc Reich, DDS, MS, Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, passed away on February 8, 2016 of complications related to multiple myeloma, which he gallantly fought for five years. Gregory was born in Denver, Colorado on May 21, 1948 to the late Philip Reich and the late Helen Morris Reich.
Gregory graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1970. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1974 from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois. He then went on to complete a Surgical Residency in Periodontics from Northwestern University Dental School in 1976 and at the same time received a Master's Degree in Oral Pathology from Northwestern University Graduate School in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Reich was Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology in 1984 and became a Diplomate, the American Board of Periodontology's highest, most selective and recognized achievement. He was in private practice in Lake Forest and Libertyville, Illinois and was on the medical staff at Lake Forest Hospital from 1976 until 1998.
In 1984, Dr. Reich was one of the very first and few surgeons chosen to receive advanced, one-on-one surgical training of applied Oral Implantology by the renowned inventor of implant technology in the United States, Dr. Gerald A. Niznick, founder and President of Core-vent Bio-Engineering and Paragon Dental Implant Company (1982-2001). Dr. Reich was forefront in the promotion and education of preventative and reconstructive dentistry and an advocate
for the successful placement of implants. Dr. Reich was invited to speak at The American Academy of Periodontology and many other professional organizations. He lectured for numerous implant companies, published original research for the American Academy of Oral Pathology and wrote numerous articles and papers for the Journal of the Chicago Dental Society and Journal of the Midwestern Society of Periodontics. Dr. Reich taught at Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago and Loyola University Dental School in Chicago and created his own local implant study club in Lake Forest. Dr. Reich would surgically place the implants and then educate General Dentists and Prosthodontist, throughout the country, on how to cosmetically and functionally restore the implants, in order to achieve a partnership of excellence and long lasting results.
In 1998, Greg and his family moved to Broadmoor, Colorado. Gregory semi-retired and developed a state of the art, private practice in Colorado Springs and also practiced in Greenwood Village, Colorado from 1998 until retirement in 2013. In his spare time, Greg most enjoyed riding his Harleys or BMW motorcycles or driving his Porsche along majestic mountain vistas. Gregory will be greatly missed by his college sweetheart and loving wife of forty-three
years, Lynn Kathleen Fazen Reich, by his one and only precious daughter, Camille Lynn Reich, MS, PhD(c), LMFT and his cherished mother-in-law, Helen Fazen, wife of the late, Louis E. Fazen, Jr., MD, FACS. Gregory passed away peacefully in their arms while wintering at their home in Palm Desert, California. Gregory's gorgeous and joyful smile will be remembered for eternity!
The Ironwood Country Club Flag in Palm Desert, California (MEM 1993-present) and the American Flag at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado (MEM 1998-present) were lowered to half-mast in Greg's honor.
