With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Goruon Hayrapetian, who peacefully entered eternal rest on May 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Goruon was born on August 16, 1941, in Miyaneh, Iran, to Aren and Christineh Hayrapetian. Raised in Tehran, he developed a lifelong love for mountain climbing, a deep pride in his Armenian heritage, and a strong devotion to his family and community.
As a young man, Goruon joined the Ararat Armenian Organization as a scout and later a scout leader, climbing Mount Damavand several times. In his twenties, he joined the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and remained committed throughout his life to the Armenian cause and community.
At 33, Goruon married Seda Galestian, and they welcomed their first daughter, Arlette, the following year. In 1979, they immigrated to San Francisco, where their daughters Annette and Linette were born, and Goruon built and operated his own contracting business for 36 years through hard work and determination.
Goruon dedicated much of his life to serving the Armenian community through executive roles in the A.R.F., Homenetmen, and the Council of Armenian American Organizations of Northern California, helping preserve the Mt. Davidson Cross as a memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
His love for mountaineering and rock climbing remained strong throughout his life. He climbed Mount Ararat three times, Mount Elbrus at age 78, and at 81 attempted Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching the third base camp.
Above all, Goruon was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Seda; his daughters, Arlette, Annette, and Linette; and his cherished granddaughters, Sofia, Olivia, Ella, and Nora. His strength, kindness, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4th, at St. Gregory Armenian Church on 1510 E. Mountain Street, in Glendale California.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mt. Davidson Cross.
