Gordon Allen Marts, 86, born on October 16, 1932 to Herman and Elva Marts, in Shubert, Nebraska, passed away December 23, 2018. He resided in Burbank, California at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; 2 children, Ann Switzer (Jon) of Burbank, California and Steven Marts (Janet) of Arlington, Tennessee; and 5 grandchildren, Victoria Marts Chambless, Andrew Marts, Christian, Thomas, and Elizabeth Switzer, and his sister, Shirley Heald of Scottsdale, Arizona. Gordon graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1950 and then went on to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University from 1950 to 1954, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Business. He was inducted into the Nebraska Wesleyan Football Hall of Fame in 1988. Gordon served 4 years of active duty as an aviator in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 and then continued as a US Naval Reservist attaining the rank of Commander. He retired in 1996 from Northrup-Grumman Aircraft where he worked as an Operations Analyst. Gordon was a devout Christian and an active member of Magnolia Park United Methodist Church in Burbank, California. He was also a member of Gideon's International and frequently passed out Bibles to schools, hospitals, and prisons. Gordon was always ready to tell others of the hope he had in Christ. Burial arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Park United Methodist Church located at 2828 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideon's International or Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, Nebraska.
