Gloria Faye Debus (née Mertz) passed away in the afternoon on December 14, 2024, at Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 95.
She was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on October 31, 1929. She grew up in Omaha with her three older siblings named Dorothy (“Dot”), Edward (“Brother”), and Eugene (“Sonny”). She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and studied secretarial skills and shorthand at a business college. She worked as an administrative assistant at Stang Hydronics. She met Merle Debus when her boss introduced them in September 1963. They fell in love and were married on February 28, 1964. She moved with her husband and son to Orange, California, in 1968 after Merle received a job promotion. Gloria and Merle worked together until June 1, 1990, and they retired in Palm Springs. On February 28, 2019, they celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary before Merle passed away on September 5, 2019. She was able to live independently most of her life. She enjoyed bowling, tennis, biking, roller skating, spending time with family, and playing games.
She lived to see her grandchildren get married and know her great-grandchildren. She deeply loved God, her husband, and her family. She was a warm, generous, loving, and supportive wife, mother, aunt, granny, and great-granny. She is survived by her son, Ted Debus and his wife, Sue Debus; her granddaughter, Holly and her husband, Chris Scarborough; her granddaughter, Rebecca and her husband, Sean Burns; her grandson, Joel Debus and his wife, Hope Debus; and her great-grandchildren, Daisy, Declan and Lucy Scarborough and Susanna Burns. She was the best and most loving wife, aunt, mother, granny, and great-granny. She lived a full life filled with generosity and love, and she shall not be forgotten by those whose lives were touched by her sweet spirit.
