Glecy Adorador Onga, dearly known as ‘Ising’, passed away peacefully from natural causes at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, on September 17, 2023 at the age of 88.
She was born on May 13, 1935 in Badiangan, Iloilo, Philippines. In the mid 1950’s, she moved to Manila and studied to become a Midwife. She married Greg Onga in 1963, and soon after opened a ‘sari-sari’ (convenience) store in Quezon City – where they settled and had their 3 kids: Carol, Jay & Pinky. When she wasn’t running the store, she was somewhere in the neighborhood delivering a baby. She was a hardworking businesswoman & midwife.
Glecy immigrated to the United States (Los Angeles, CA) in May 1978 with husband, Greg, and their 3 children.
She worked at Temple Community Hospital in Los Angeles as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 30 years, and retired at the age of 79.
Glecy enjoyed ballroom dancing, travelling, & family gatherings. She was a great cook, and at one point had a side hustle of catering for friends and co-workers in the 1980s. Glecy was an active parishioner (at Christ the King Catholic church) and a social butterfly ; she organized and/or attended a variety of church & social events, especially in the Filipino community.
Glecy has touched many lives far beyond the normal circle of family and friends, near and far - and will be fondly remembered for her kindness, enormous heart, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She genuinely cared for people, and was always willing to lend a helping hand - sharing her time, talent, and even the little treasure she had. If she didn’t have the resources to help you, she’d find someone else who’s willing and able. She had also sacrificed saving for her retirement, just so she could occasionally send money to extended families back in the Philippines for over 3 decades.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg, and her grandson, Jared.
Glecy is survived by her daughter - Carol (husband, Shaldy), son – Jay (wife, Yvette), daughter – Pinky (husband, Karlo), and five grandchildren – Brandon, Lauren, Ariana, Ethan, and Tyler.
She lived a fulfilling life as a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend – and will be greatly missed.
