With her daughter by her side, Geraldine "Geri" Samonte Arcangel, 56, loving mother, dedicated daughter, kind sister, encouraging and helpful friend, a tv fan, budding Kpop and K-drama enthusiast and more, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, in Los Angeles, CA.
Born to Romeo and Avelina Arcangel on December 2, 1965 in Manila, Philippines, Geri known to her family members as "Gina" eventually immigrated to Southern California as a young child. She grew up pulling her younger brothers out of fights, looking after her younger cousins and playing tennis and volleyball. She attended local schools, graduating in 1983 from Eagle Rock High School.
Geri made a living in various administrative positions in the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas, but raising her daughter was her pride and joy. As a single mom, Geri worked to provide her daughter with every opportunity, both with a quality education and countless extra curricular activities â there was no limit to her dedication. She enjoyed being an active single parent in her daughter's life, whether it was being a Girl Scout troop leader, cheering from the basketball sidelines, volunteering at school functions, spearheading beach parties for her daughter (and her friends) or carpooling them to concerts and more. Geri was proudest sharing the accomplishments of her independent and strong-willed daughter.
Geri never let being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 stop her from living a full life. Her youthful and fighting spirit, strength, faith in God, love for her family and friends will be missed by all who knew and loved her. You could count on her to always greet you with a text for every birthday or holiday and be a listening ear and reassuring voice in hard times. A woman of her word, you could always count on Geri to be there for you.
Geri is survived by her daughter Amanda; father Romeo Arcangel; brothers Jose and Raymond Arcangel; nephews Joseph and Braylon Arcangel; nieces Jessica and Hayden Arcangel; and many friends and loved ones. The visitation will be Monday, February 14 at Forest Lawn Glendale, Mortuary Building, Visitation Rooms 17 and 18, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue., Glendale, CA 91205. Funeral services will take place at Forest Lawn Glendale's Church of the Recessional on Tuesday, February 15 at 10 am. The mass will be streamed via Zoom https://bit.ly/3rSGxUN. In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation is highly appreciated.
