Georgiann Scritsmier passed away on June 3 at the age of 92.
Born Georgiann L. Sladky in 1925, she was the oldest of three daughters. She grew up in Superior, Wisconsin during the Depression where she also went to school. After graduating high school she attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior, and received a degree as a Medical Lab Technician. She was one of the first in the country to be certified in the medical field as a Medical Lab Technician, of which she was always very proud. Later she would instill her love of science in her children.
Her first job was at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she met her future husband "Red" Scritsmier on a blind date. Their marriage lasted one month shy of 55 years. Together they moved to Pomona, California where they raised their family. Georgiann later served as a Medical Lab Technician for the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona student health center for over twenty years.
During her life Georgiann was active in the Ebell Club, was PTA Treasurer, Girl Scout leader, volunteer at Yucca Valley Hospital, and participated in various charities. She enjoyed bowling in several leagues and playing the accordion and was known for her baking and homemade ice cream. Her hobbies included sewing and doing crossword puzzles.
After Georgiann and Red retired, they moved to Yucca Valley, California where they pursued their love of traveling. Each year they enjoyed two long trips, one visiting relatives around the country in their travel trailer and the other to distant parts of the world. Together they saw every part of the world they had dreamed about visiting.
Georgiann is survived by her three children Lyle, Milton, and Ellen, three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
