Georgette DeBruyn, born on June 29, 1950, peacefully departed this life on October 24, 2025. She enriched the lives of many as a dedicated hairdresser before finding her true calling as a teacher's aid, driven by her profound love for children. Georgette’s nurturing spirit was evident in every facet of her life; she took joy in spending time with family, and her warm demeanor brought comfort and understanding to those around her.
Georgette was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Charles DeBruyn, who she affectionately referred to as her "pooh bear." Their bond was one of deep love and respect, and together they created a family filled with joy and support. She is survived by her son, Charles DeBruyn, and her daughter-in-law, Mary DeBruyn, who brought forth her grandsons, Wyatt and Bennett DeBruyn, shining lights in her life. Georgette's devotion extended to her daughter, Christine Valfre, and son-in-law, Ethan Valfre, as well as her cherished grandson, Elliott Valfre, whose laughter and love she held dear.
In addition to the love she shared with her immediate family, Georgette was a beloved sister to Sr. Frances Watte and Loretta Sayce, whose bonds of sisterhood added richness to her life. Known for her kindness, Georgette embraced her roles as a Sunday school teacher, and a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, helping to mold the characters of countless children with her compassion and understanding.
Her hobbies, including painting, crocheting, and solving crossword puzzles, reflected her artistic spirit and creative mind. A special fondness for butterflies symbolized her joy and freedom. Georgette's contributions were not only felt within her family but also within the community, as she instilled values of kindness and generosity in all those she met.
In January of 2023, Georgette entered a nursing home, where she continued to be surrounded by the love of her family. In June of 2025, she moved into hospice care, and she ultimately transitioned peacefully surrounded by her cherished loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22nd at 3 PM at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach, located at 241 Cedar Ave, Long Beach, CA.
