George John Vana

April 17, 1925 — February 8, 2017

George, 91, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2017 after several months of declining health. He was born and raised in Berwyn, Illinois and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years from 1944 to 1946. George married Agnes Srajer in Chicago in 1945 just before he shipped out to serve in Europe during WWII. After the war, George studied Chemical Engineering at Purdue University graduating in the Class of '49. George and Agnes transplanted themselves to the Los Angeles area in 1951. He was a long time employee for CF Braun & Co. in Alhambra and traveled much of the world working on various projects and proposals. George always looked forward to the adventure of overseas assignments and brought along his wife and children on several occasions. George was a Covina resident for 45 years. He retired in 1985 at the age of 60 but continued on as a consultant for several years. George was married for 61 years to his wife Agnes, who passed away in 2006. In the 10 years since Agnes' passing, George took great pleasure having lunch daily at the Covina Senior Center. He is survived by his sister Donna and his 2 children George and Carole, along with 3 grandchildren. George will be buried next to Agnes at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina Hills.
