Plaistow: George E. Melvin, 71, a longtime resident of Plaistow, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a several week illness.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, son of the late Ernest P. and Betty Lou (Greenway) Melvin, he was raised and educated in Haverhill and Amesbury and attended the Essex Agricultural and Technical High School in Hawthorne, MA.

Mr. Melvin was a well-known builder and developer in the area and operated M & M Construction and Melvin and Son Construction. He lived briefly in Hampstead before settling back into Plaistow twenty-one years ago. He was active in Plaistow town affairs, serving on several boards including the Plaistow Planning Board and Plaistow Board of Selectmen.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Plaistow and was a member of the Country Pond Fish and Game Club of Newton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and trips to Las Vegas, Branson and Spain.

He is survived by his loving wife Bernice T. "Bunny" (Ely) Melvin, to whom he was married for fifteen years, a son and daughter-in-law, George E and Stacy Melvin,Jr. of Kingston, two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherrie Melvin of Louisianna and Pamela and Robert Locke of Amesbury, step sons, Bobby Joe Greenwood of Braintree, MA, and Robert Greenwood of Haverhill, a step daughter, Wanda Bilodeau of Newton, three brothers Charles Melvin of Newton, Richard Melvin of Plaistow and David Melvin of California, three sisters, Joyce Casey of Florida, Sandy Sarbanis of Haverhill and Jane Leslie of California, also twelve grandchildren, one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandfather Alfred Little.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend George's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 1 to 5 p.m.,followed by his funeral service at 5:15 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. to send a message of condolence to the family or to find directions to our home, please visit www.brooksidechapelfh.com
