Chester, NH: George E. "Mac" MacDonald, 89, of Chester and formerly of Hampstead, NH, died on August 8 at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont.
Born in East Boston, son of the late Joseph W. and Bella (MacGillivray) MacDonald, Mr. MacDonald was raised and educated in Nova Scotia, Canada and served in the Royal Canadian Army during World War II. Mr. MacDonald moved back to the United States in 1948 and established residency in Chelsea, MA.
Mr. MacDonald was employed as a turbine engineer in Building 64 of General Electric Company in Lynn, MA, where he was known by all as "Mac", and retired after thirty-eight years of service. He was also a gifted and master carpenter.
An avid Red Sox fan and fresh water fisherman, Mr. MacDonald enjoyed gardening, especially cultivating his tomato plants, and watching boxing. Most of all, he loved watching his grandson play baseball and never missed a game.
Mr. MacDonald was predeceased by his wife Lorraine (Gaudet) MacDonald in 1992, and two daughters, Catherine MacDonald and Margaret "Peggy" MacDonald. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Bonnie MacDonald of Chester, NH, two sons, Daniel MacDonald and his wife Christina (Reid) MacDonald of Ashland, MA, and George MacDonald of Saugus, MA, a brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Prudence MacDonald of Dunbarton, NH, a sister, Isabel Pizzano of Boxford, MA, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Donald, and Lavin MacDonald.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. MacDonald's Life Celebration on Sunday, August 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA. Family and friends are invited to a reception on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Irish Club, 46 Clinton Street, Chelsea, MA.
