George Gemette

George Gemette, 79, born on June 13, 1943, in Riverside, CA, USA, passed away June 06, 2023.  He was residing in Yucca Valley, CA at the time of his passing.  George served in the Army from 1964 – 1966 as a medical specialist in Germany.  He was honorably discharged and received medals for good conduct and expert rifleman.  After the service he went to work for Rocketdyne and worked on the Apallo project.  He later got his landscapers/gardening license, purchased land in Simi Valley and opened a nursery.   His love of plants carried on into everything he did in the future.  He moved to Yucca Valley in 1981, where he received his contractor’s license and began his career as a custom home builder with Gemette Construction, Inc. in Palm Desert CA.  He went on to build homes in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indio, Indian Wells, Cathedral City, some of which were featured in the Palm Springs Life magazine.  In addition to his contractor's career, he started California Home Inspections, Inc. doing home inspections for new buyers.  In 2008 he also became a licensed Residential Care Facility Administrator for the elderly and opened an assisted living home, Gemette Care Group, La Bella Gardens, in Rancho Mirage where he cared for 6 residents and his beloved, Peggy for 14 years until his illness.  He is survived by Karen Gemette, of Yucca Valley, his business partner, companion  and friend; his daughter Melanie Brown of Anaheim, and 4 grandchildren; Jasmyne, Jay, Jordyn, Jylian, and 3 great granddaughters, Sydney, Logan and Blair; daughter Melissa Huber of New Jersey, with 1 granddaughter, Cassandra; nephew Jason Gemette of Canyon Country; cousin, Lynne Ferretta-Williams of Canyon Country; nephew and Godson Sean Myers of San Diego.    George was preceded in death by his brother Sam Gemette on May 14, 2023.  Services will be held at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City with viewing on Monday June 26 from noon till 8 PM and service on Tuesday, June 27 at 10 AM in the chapel.  George will be laid to rest immediately following the service at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA with full military honors at 1:15 pm.
