George Jarrett Garten

George Jarrett Garten, 67, born on December 18, 1947 in Torrance, California, passed away January 10, 2015. He resided in Lakewood, California, at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.

George Jarrett Garten is survived by his wife, Kathy, their two children, Colleen and George, his two sisters, Marde and Rae Ann, and by many beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives. There will be a memorial service on January 24, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn, Cypress. Following the service, there will be a celebration of his life at the Garten home in Lakewood.

George was born in Torrance on December 18, 1947 to proud parents, George and Rachel Garten. He grew up in Bellflower, CA with his parents, his older sister, Marde, and his younger sister, Rae Ann. He graduated from Downey High School in 1966 and joined the Coast Guard. He was in the Coast Guard for four years and served in Vietnam during parts of 1969-1970, where he earned the purple heart.

In 1971, he attended his best friend's wedding, where he met Kathy Lagutaris and asked to take her home. They got married on July 28, 1973 in Bellflower, CA, surrounded by friends and family. They had their daughter, Colleen, on April, 21, 1983 and their son, George, came along four years later, on September 1, 1987. He spent the rest of his life being a loving and dedicated husband and father.
