George Alfred Cooper

July 25, 1925 — August 17, 2021

On Tuesday, August 17th, George A. Cooper, loving husband, "Dad," favorite uncle and friend passed away at the age of 96.

George was born on July 25, 1925 to Beryl and Hazel Cooper in Los Angeles, California. He married Edna Thiel on November 24 1948. They built a home on Gaycrest in Torrance, CA until Edna's passing in 2009. They were considered "second parents" to "daughter" Gayle, and "son" Jim.

When he married Edna he was taken in by her family as a son and brother. Now instead of being an only child, George instantly had six sisters and four brothers. He was the last of that great generation, leaving behind his "kids," many nieces and nephews, and countless others who loved him dearly.

His life's work was in public service. George served twice in the military: First in the Army Air Corps, then the US Air Force at the outset of the Korean War. He spent a long career as a Deputy Sheriff and detective for LA county, then as an investigator for the District Attorney. The stories of riding the "radio car," the characters of Lennox station, and chasing down the ones who thought they had gotten away with it, were many, wonderful and told often.

George's passions were his family, the job, the beach, big fast cars, and travel. He was known for his absolute professionalism, quick wit, deep hearty laugh, generosity and a compassionate spirit.

George will be laid to rest beside his beloved Edna, at Forest Lawn Cemetery following a life celebration in the Church of the Recessional, on Friday September 10th at 2:30pm.
