Generosa Buenaventura

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Generosa Sanchez Buenaventura, 75, passed away in Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, CA on January 22, 2026. She was the daughter of Rogaciano and Martha Sanchez, born the 17th of July 1950 in Orion, Bataan, Philippines, and was the third of seven children. She attended Centro Escolar University in Manila and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Generosa married Rolando Buenaventura on October 6, 1973. While Rolando served in the military, they moved from the Philippines to California, Rhode Island, Japan, and eventually back to San Diego, CA where they settled and resided for the past 39 years. She worked in quality assurance and as a cashier at the Navy Commissary. Generosa and Rolando have two children, Jennifer and Cheryl Lynn.

Cooking and sharing meals with her family and friends brought Generosa great joy. She loved to go shopping not just for herself but for all her loved ones. She was selfless, loving and generous, always thinking of others before herself. She expressed her love through affection, kindness, and generous gifts. When she felt inspired, she took pleasure in expressing her creativity through various art and craft projects including ceramics and flower arrangements. Tending to her garden provided her a sense of calm and peace. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, celebrating every achievement and milestone with great pride and happiness, and was also there with steadfast love and support during the trying times.

Generosa was a God-fearing and faithful servant of the Lord, teaching and raising her family to also live a life rooted in strong faith. Her five grandchildren were the light of her life: Jericho, Alexander, Arianna, Aubrey and Sydney. Always being there to support them, she was a reliable confidant for her grandkids, advising them without judgment. She enveloped her family in a love that was boundless, unconditional, and enduring. She never let them forget that family is everything, and she was the steady force—the glue—keeping her family strong and connected.

Generosa was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Eufenette Herrera), brother (Warlito Sanchez), cousin (Fernando Sanchez), nephew (Clyde Sanchez), and brother-in-law (Caesar Bansil). She is survived by her husband, daughters, Jennifer Caroc (husband, Chris) and Cheryl Lynn Tran (husband, Alvin), and five grandchildren, Jericho, Alexander, Arianna, Aubrey, and Sydney.
