Gail Parker Edwards, a beacon of grace, love, and dedication, passed away on August 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of strength and compassion. Born on January 3, 1946, in Carbon Hill, Alabama, Gail was the beloved daughter of Roosevelt Parker and Inez Parker and the cherished sibling to ten brothers and sisters: Gillie Sims Parker, Oscar Depriest Parker, Arthur Mitchell Parker, Roosevelt Parker Jr., Franklin D. Parker Sr., Gloria Ann Parker Colvin, Nelvin G. Parker, Elkin W. Parker Sr., Johnny Michael Parker, and Garry E. Parker.
Gail’s journey from her small-town roots to a life of remarkable accomplishments began with her graduation from Dunbar High School in 1964. Her thirst for knowledge and her ambition led her to Winona State Vocational Trade School in Birmingham, Alabama, where she earned a Diploma in Business Education. Her pursuit of excellence continued as she later attained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from National University at the age of 42.
In 1967, Gail’s adventurous spirit took her to Detroit, Michigan, where she began her career in banking. The next chapter of her life unfolded in Long Beach, California, where she met and married the love of her life, Pervis James Edwards III, in 1970. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their two cherished children, Pervis James Edwards IV and Melissa Edwards Palter.
Gail’s professional journey continued with dedication and passion as she worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), retiring with fulfillment at the age of 62. Her retirement years were a testament to her commitment to family and community. She found immense joy in spending time with her granddaughter, Shelby Edwards, and embraced her role as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, spreading kindness and support to those in need. She also enjoyed reading her bible, gardening, and knitting.
Gail gave her life to Christ at a young age. A devoted member of Living Word Missionary Baptist Church, Gail’s faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her through every endeavor with love and integrity. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication touched the lives of many, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Gail Parker Edwards is survived by her beloved husband, Pervis James Edwards III; her children, Pervis James Edwards IV and Melissa Edwards Palter; her granddaughter, Shelby Edwards, daughter in-law Jennifer Edwards, son in-law Craig Palter; and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
