Frederick P. Richards, Jr., 88, formerly of Newton, NH, passed away on November 20, 2013. He was the husband of the late Claire (Schena) Richards, to whom he was married for forty-nine years.
Born in Newton, NH on May 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Frederick P., Sr. and Dorothy (Wilder) Richards.
"Penry," as he was known to his friends, was a WWII veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. After serving his country, he worked as an electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for thirty years, retiring in 1981. Before fully retiring in 1990, he worked part-time at the Memorial School in Newton Jct., NH.
He enjoyed going square dancing at Lanes Ten Acres in Merrimac, MA, where he met his wife in 1955 until it closed in the early 70's. He was a Patriots and Red Sox fan and liked to eat at Skip's Snack Bar, Larry's Clam Bar, Napoli's Pizza, and Acio's Pizza every Saturday.
Penry leaves his two daughters, Beverly Moore of Hampton, NH and her husband, Steve, Elizabeth Richards of Promised Land, PA, four grandchildren, Tanya McCarthy of Swampscott, MA, and her partner, Daniel Dunbar, Nicolas McCarthy of Newton, NH and his wife, Kelly, Megan Jennings of Olyphant, PA and her husband, Jason, Matthew Ciaston of Promised Land, PA, and four great-grandchildren, John and Vaughn Hazell, Braidan Dunbar, Aleecya Jennings, one sister, Margery Hanson of Newton, NH, one sister-in-law, Gloria Richards of Palmetto, Fl and Kingston, NH, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, William Clifford Richards, his brother, David W. Richards and his sister, Nancy (Field) Cheney.
His family would like to thank the staffs and employees at Oceanside Rehab in Hampton, NH, Genesis Rehab in Exeter, NH, The Pines of Newmarket, NH, Exeter Hospital and Rockingham VNA Hospice in Brentwood, NH for the wonderful care and patience that was given to Penry in the last few months - also to his wonderful neighbors, friends, and family who visited him.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 2 N. Main Street, Newton, NH. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Any floral arrangements should be delivered directly to the church. Brookside Chapel & Funeral home is entrusted with the arrangements.
