Frederick E. "Fred" Pitkin Sr., age 88 of Sunapee, former longtime resident of Ward Hill, MA passed away peacefully at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH on March 8, 2016. He was born in Haverhill, MA on January 21, 1928 and was raised by the late Carl Wilson and his wife. He was raised and educated in Atkinson, NH. He served his country in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged.
Fred had worked for Western Electric in No. Andover in manufacturing for many years. Later in his career, he was tasked with the transportation of personnel. He retired in 1986 with 31 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, The Kingston, NH V.F.W. Post 1088 and was active with the Atkinson Scholarship Fund. He and his wife were longtime members of the Atkinson Congregational Church.
Fred was a ferocious reader who loved history and considered himself a Civil War expert. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and his sisters. He had a fascination for trains and other modes of transportation.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Olive B. (Duchemin) Pitkin in 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. McCulloch and husband, Jay of George's Mills, NH. His son, Frederick E. Pitkin Jr. of Center Conway, NH. His former daughter-in-law, Victoria Keir of Kingston, NH. His grandchildren, Stephanie Tessier and husband, Steven of Epping, NH and Florence Kier-Pitkin of Kingston, NH. His great-grandchildren, Molly and Zachary Tessier. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harlan Pitkin and his sisters, Eunice and Viola Wilson.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mr. Pitkin's Life Celebration on Monday, March 14, 2016 from 4-6 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street (Rt. 121A), Plaistow, NH 03865.
