Frank Er Hui Hsu

October 13, 1938 — September 6, 2013

Frank Er Hui Hsu, 74, born on October 13, 1938, in Shanyang, China, passed away September 6, 2013. He resided in Walnut, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, Covina, California.

Frank Hsu was born in 1938 in Shenyang, China to his father, a government official. He lived in Henan, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, and studied at the primary school affiliated with Fu Jen Catholic University in Beijing. Frank was very bright and clever at a young age, and beloved by his grandparents. His teachers always regarded him as an excellent student but his parents were afraid of spoiling him. They realized that he needed a little more discipline than his siblings because he had such great potential.

Later, because of the war, in 1948, he traveled through Dinghai, Xiamen, Qingdao, Shanghai and Hainan to Taiwan. In 1949, he studied at Taipei County, Tamsui Junior high school. After graduating from Tamsui Junior high school he went to Taipei to take the high school entrance examination alone, and entered Cheng-Kung high school from 1949 to 1952. He passed the United University Examination and studied in the Taiwan Provincial Agricultural College (the predecessor of National Chung Hsing University), in the Department of Agricultural economics from 1952 to 1955.

After graduation, he joined the military reserve officer service, and then served in the Taiwan Agricultural Rehabilitation Committee working with major national construction projects in Hsinchu. Due to his outstanding performance he was sent to the Netherlands and Germany to attend conferences for construction on reclaimed land. Choosing to further his education instead of taking high paying jobs, he attended the University of Wyoming to pursue his studies.

In 1971 he married Laura. In 1973 he received his Masters degree in Economics of Agriculture from the University of Wyoming. In 1974 he took a job working for the Computer Science Corporation. During that period his daughter Kathy and his son Howard were born. Later he took a job as a supervisor working with the County of Los Angeles computer department. He remained there for 24 years. His coworkers and bosses held him in high regard and enjoyed his company. In 2003 he decided to retire.

After retirement, he focused on his Chinese Calligraphy, especially poems, music and painting. He was very involved in his alumni association and the Chinese Cultural Center. He would have art exhibits attended by many people who enjoyed his artwork. He loved all genres of music and instruments and played the harmonica, clarinet, saxophone, tuba and trumpet. As he got older, he found a deep love for karaoke. It made him happy, and he shared his happiness with others.

As his health deteriorated, he outlived all expectations. He said goodbye to the world on September 6, 2013. He will be missed by his family and the many lives that he enriched. His family was always by his side throughout the best and worst times of his life and took good care of him. Frank is gone far away but leaves a legacy and is now in heaven with God.
