Hampstead: Frank C. Howard, 87, a native and lifelong resident of Hampstead, died October19, 2016, at Exeter Hospital.
The son of the late Frank E. and Beatrice (Buttrick) Howard, he attended local schools. He first made his living by raising chickens and later worked as an ice cutter and delivered ice, coal and wood in the employ of the late Levi Duston.
Mr. Howard later established Frank Howard Trucking, a long haul trucking and excavating company that he owned and operated for much of his adult life and also was the longest continuously operating snow plow contractor for the State of New Hampshire. He was especially proud that he helped to build the Hampstead Ski Tow, which operated for many years in the West Hampstead section of the town. In his later years, he served as the Road Agent for the Town of Hampstead and from 1991 until 2010, he was employed as the well respected and much loved custodian at the Hampstead Middle School.
A member of the Hampstead Congregational Church and an avid Red Sox fan, Mr. Howard was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed attending family events. He also enjoyed attending Classic Car Shows, observing the weather and spending time at Bear Camp River in Ossipee, NH.
He was predeceased in the past two years by his brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Ruthena Howard of Hampstead, and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a niece Bonnie J. Knox and her husband Robert of Hampstead, three nephews, Eric D. Howard and his wife Elizabeth of Chester, Christopher L. Howard and his wife Lorrie of Hampstead, and Dean C. "DJ" Howard and his wife Jennifer of Hampstead, special cousins Maurice and Juanita Randall of Hampstead, and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Howard's Life Celebration to be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will take place on Friday, October 28, at 1 p.m. at the Hampstead Congregational Church, Main St., Hampstead.
