Mr. Alvarez, an esteemed figure in the cultural and tourism realm, dedicated over 20 years as the Director of the Cultural and Tourism Affairs Office of Quezon City, Philippines. Throughout his tenure, he spearheaded numerous projects aimed at elevating Quezon City's standing on the international stage. For his exceptional contributions and a testament to his commitment, he was honored with the prestigious Pag-Asa Award of the Civil Service Commision in 1984, which recognizes superior work performance and outstanding contributions benefiting an office, agency, community, or region.
Born on October 4th, 1930 in Cabanatuan, Philippines, Francisco Alvarez brought great pride and passion to his work. His enthusiasm for promoting culture and tourism touched the lives of many citizens in Quezon City. As a true visionary, he recognized the importance of fostering international relationships and successfully initiated Quezon City's Sister City bonds with Chiba City, Japan and Salt Lake City, Utah. These enduring alliances have not only enriched cultural exchanges but also paved the way for greater understanding and cooperation between people.
Francisco's legacy will continue to be felt throughout Quezon City and beyond. Under his leadership, numerous initiatives were launched to showcase the city's diverse heritage and cultural endeavors. His dedication transcended borders as he strived to introduce Quezon City's unique offerings to an international audience.
While Francisco devoted countless hours to his work, he found solace in spending time with loved ones. Paternal warmth radiated from him as he cherished every moment shared with family members and friends who surrounded him throughout his life. Jose "Jay Jay" Alvarez, his beloved son, will forever treasure the memories they created together. Additionally, Francisco leaves behind his dear sister Marina Reyes who lives in the Philippines.
On October 6th, 2023, Francisco Alvarez departed this world, leaving a void that will be deeply felt. As friends and family gather to bid their final farewells, visitation services will take place on Wednesday October 25th, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Hope Chapel in Cypress, CA. The funeral service will follow on Thursday October 26th, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 AM, held at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Patriots Chapel in Cypress, CA.
