Francesca An

Chang Keun Chong, better known as Francesca An, daughter of the late Kae Won Jong and Suk Pak of Korea, was born on September 20, 1935, in Seoul, Korea. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at her residence in Buena Park, having nearly attained the age of 89 years.

Francesca was a loving mother of two children, Francesca Chang Tucker-Schuyler and Francis Joseph Tucker Jr. She was also a loving second mother to her brother’s children, Byung Do (Lawrence) Chong and Rosalyn Jene Hall, taking legal guardianship of them after her brother and sister-in-law’s passing.

Francesca was married to Francis Joseph Tucker, 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army. They met in Korea and lived there for 14 years with their children before moving to New York, New York.

Francesca was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Francine Rose Gaalswyk, Joanna Frances Lagunas, Nathaniel Francis Schuyler, Hailey Taylor Hall, Hudson Wayne Hall, Adam Tucker, Jacqueline Orsini, Chandler Blake Schuyler, Cameron Paul Schuyler, and Brandon Douglas Schuyler. 

Dedication to public service ran throughout Francesca’s life, and her family proudly represents the U.S. Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Law Enforcement.

Francesca was a savvy businesswoman, starting as a seamstress in the garment industry before opening her own garment factory. She helped raise several of her grandchildren, and after retiring, she enjoyed many activities, including ping pong, badminton, ballroom dancing, swimming, and gardening.

Francesca had the opportunity to revisit her homeland of Korea and travel to Jeju Island before her passing. As a wonderful cook, Francesca expressed her love through food and cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Francesca was a born-again Christian who accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She is now in her Father’s house, where the streets are paved with gold, and there are no more tears. May she rest in peace forever.
