Frances M Gilbert was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to Theresa and John Parks. John tragically died of influenza while Theresa was pregnant with Frances. Theresa was pressured by family and friends to abort, they thought raising a child as a single parent would prove to difficult, however Theresa chose to keep her child to grant John's wish of keeping their baby. On August 3, 1919 Theresa welcomed her beautiful baby girl Frances into the world. When Frances was very young, Theresa brought her to New York, unfortunately Frances was ill as a child and had to remain at Ellis Island for a short time where she was treated for anemia. In New York Theresa met and married Joseph Alonza and gave Frances a brother and sister, Jeanette and Robert, the family was now complete.
At the age of 16 Frances met and fell madly in love with her soul mate Edward Gilbert and they married on May 8, 1936. They were blessed with four children, Edward, Russel,Linda and Diane. Life was not always easy in those days, but they always had food on the table and clothes for the kids and lots and lots of love. As the kids grew older Frances was able to get a job at a knitting mill to help during these difficult times. The kids grew up and started families of their own and blessed Frances and Edward Sr with 7 grand children and 15 great grandchildren.
After all the kids moved to California and Frances' mother Theresa and Edward's father passed away they decided to follow them to California in the early 80's. After a couple of moves they settled on Senior Apartments in Cypress Ca. in the late 80s. They had many friends in the senior complex and enjoyed California living. .After 55 years of blissful married life Edward passed away July 26, 1991. Losing the love of her life Frances knew she had to keep busy, so she joined clubs, played bingo, learned line dancing and went on mini trips. She also kept busy knitting and crocheting sweaters and afgans for her children and grand children. Frances remained at the senior apartments in Cypress until she was 95. Unfortunately Frances' health began to decline and she moved to Alamitos West Health Care Center where she reamined until she passed on February 9, 2018.
