Florencia G. Pineda

Florencia Pineda "Florence" "Flory", 85, passed away on April 15, 2016 at Hollywood Presbyterian Chalet in Los Angeles.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:30 PM at: Our Mother of Good Counsel Church in Los Feliz and internment immediately follows at Glendale Forest Lawn. Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 21st from 2 PM to 9 PM and on Friday, April 22nd from 10 AM to 9 PM at Glendale Forest Lawn.

Florencia was born in Manila, Philippines on November 7, 1930 to Carmen and Cornelio Pineda. In 1967, she received Fulbright and Ford Foundation scholarships that allowed her to pursue and earn a Master's degree in Mathematics at Rutgers University, in New Jersey. She was the head of the Math Department at Manila Science High School before becoming a Math professor at Los Angeles Trade Tech College where she retired at age 77. She also earned her CPA, but moreover was a dedicated educator for 58 years. As adept as she was in her mathematical skills, she equally loved to recite poems from memory. Florencia was an avid and adventurous traveler, a passionate Roman Catholic, and generously gave to many charities.

Florencia is survived by her nieces, Lourdes de la Cruz, Teresa Singson, Cecile Cabildo, Maria Tolentino, Susan Berberabe, Cristina Hagan; nephews Nestor "Tito" Campos, Jose Campos; brother-in-law, Lupicinio Campos; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Florencia is preceded in death by her sisters, Vicenta Pineda, Esperanza Campos, Purita Agbada, and Francisca Pineda.
