Florence Elizabeth Lowe, 98, of Palm Springs, Calif., passed away gently in her sleep on August 29, 2013 in Cathedral City, Calif. She is survived by five sons, Robert, Richard, Raymond, Randy, and Michael; and one daughter, Beverly Formaneck. She was predeceased in death by her daughter, Donna Lowe Morrison; her husband, Donald Eugene Lowe; and siblings, Gertrude Winter and Chester Peterson. Florence was born on November 4, 1914 and was raised in North Dakota by her parents, Peter Edward Peterson and Mary Lavina Barrett, but moved to California with her sister, Gertrude Winter, in the early 1930's after graduating from high school. In California, she met her future husband, Don, and began a wonderful, caring, and loving marriage that lasted over 50 years. They had seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Florence was always very active in their children's lives through organizations like the Parent Teachers Association. She moved to Palm Springs in 1999 to be close to family. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Palm Springs at 11:00 a.m. on September 28, 2013 followed by interment at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City. Donations in her honor should be made to the LGBT Community Center of the Desert, 611 S. Palm Canyon Drive #201, Palm Springs, Calif. 92264, Attn.: Foodbank.
