Felisa Amancio De Los Reyes

February 12, 1935 — February 7, 2022

Felisa Amancio De Los Reyes, 86, died on Monday, February 7th, 2022 with her family by her side in Upland, California.

Born on February 12th, 1935 in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines to Roque and Aurora Amancio, Felisa was the oldest of seven children. After their father died, she took on the responsibilities of helping her mother care for her siblings, earning her the nickname "Inday."

Felisa had a knack for numbers and a joy of learning. She studied at Arellano University where she was crowned Miss Arellano and met her ex-husband Leo H. De Los Reyes with whom she had three children. She had beauty, brains, and brawn.

After she graduated, she taught math at San Francisco High School in Quezon City. In seeking a better life for her family, Felisa applied for a professional visa as a teacher. She found a job in Buffalo, New York but changed her mind and arrived in California jobless.

From night shift cashier to housekeeping jobs, Felisa worked hard to ensure her children immigrated to the US. It was tough but she persevered in achieving a small sliver of the American dream. She taught herself to drive, bought her own home, helped her children secure their financial futures, and eventually was hired by ADP, a payroll services company, where she excelled at what she knew best — crunching numbers.

Beneath her tough exterior was a deeply compassionate individual. Felisa enjoyed gardening, calling to check on you, and expressing her love by adding another scoop of rice on your plate. Most of all, she deeply loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Felisa is survived by her siblings Edith Baldago, Chona Doncillo, Roque Amancio Jr., and Shirley Paat; her children Edilberto De Los Reyes Sr. (Marilou De Los Reyes), Leo De Los Reyes Sr. (Carmencita De Los Reyes), and Leofel Negrete (Rogelio Negrete); her grandchildren Edil Mari De Los Reyes (Derek Jansen), Edilberto De Los Reyes Jr., Leo Teotimo De Los Reyes Jr., Ernestine De Los Reyes, Carlee De Los Reyes, Rogelio Michael Negrete, Leezeth De Los Reyes, and Joshua Mateo Negrete; and her great-grandchildren Iluminada Jansen and Elise Jansen. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roque Amancio (d. unknown) and Aurora Amancio (d. March 16th, 1999), and her brothers, Sergio Amancio (d. April 2nd, 1995) and Mabini Amancio (d. April 17th, 2019).

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the International Committee of the Red Cross – two philanthropies Felisa often donated to.

Memorial services are being arranged by Forest Lawn Covina Hills. Viewing services on April 6th, 2022 from 9am to 6pm. Funeral mass on April 7th, 2022 at 10am at St. Denis Catholic Church in Diamond Bar, followed by burial services at Forest Lawn Covina Hills.
