In Loving Memory of Federico Sánchez
Federico Sánchez was born on July 30, 1932, in Bogotá, Colombia. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
Federico spent his early years in Colombia, where he pursued his education at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, earning a degree in economics. In 1950, he met his lifelong best friend, Yolanda Sánchez, and the two were married on September 2, 1954. Together, they had three children: Astrid, Marie, and Harry. Though Federico and Yolanda later divorced, their enduring friendship remained a testament to the deep bond they shared throughout their lives.
In 1975, Federico moved to the United States in search of new opportunities. He initially worked in a restaurant in New York before settling in California in 1979, where he spent more than 30 years as a dedicated and hardworking machine operator. Even after retiring, Federico’s strong work ethic never wavered. He returned to the workforce, joining Fuji Film and working alongside his daughter Astrid for another 12 years. In his later years, Federico found joy in helping raise his great-grandchildren, becoming a cherished “partner in crime” to Astrid in their care and upbringing. He was a quiet pillar of strength, loyalty, and love for his family.
In 2020, Federico began to show signs of dementia. Despite the challenges of the disease, he faced it with grace and resilience. His health began to decline in early 2025, and he passed peacefully after a courageous battle.
Federico is survived by his children Astrid and Harry, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his lifelong friend Yolanda Sánchez. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his tireless work ethic, and the warmth he brought to those around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and quiet perseverance.
