Cookie Caffery
A Life well Lived!
Faye Arlene Caffery, known as Cookie, passed on August 19, 2024. She was the daughter of Michael and Wilma Dianich. Cookie was born on September 29, 1935, in Ramsay, Michigan. She and her brother, “Butch” grew up playing in the snow, and with their dog- Boots.
The family moved to San Diego, California, where Cookie attended Grossmont High School. Her high school yearbook read, “this is one Cookie that doesn’t crumble”, describing her spirit and zest for life. She was the head cheerleader and knew how to rouse a crowd.
After high school, she became a flight attendant, based in San Diego. She was only 19, even though the minimum age was 21 at the time! She took to the skies, as she did with everything in life, with passion. She once told us a story about the pilots asking her if she would mind, if they flew under the Golden Gate Bridge and of course she said, do it, and laughed excitedly.
Cookie married Robert “Bob” Caffery, in San Diego, in 1955, and moved to Inglewood, California. They went on to have 4 children in L.A., Tom, Jon, Joe and Terri. In 1965, they moved to Palm Springs, California. Bob and Cookie went on to have another child, Jason.
Cookie settled into the desert, and loved it. She was part of the social scene, as they were members of The Raquet Club and The Tennis Club. She was a great tennis player, and would have many rounds of doubles with her friends, Gretchen Clarke, Jackie Wright, Patti Carr-Bosley among many others. She was involved in The Desert Circus, Bob Hope Classic and American Airlines tennis tournament. Cookie was a tour guide for many years and always enjoyed welcoming people to the desert, pointing out the best places to enjoy their time. She settled into a Concierge position for 27 years and retired at 87.
Mom will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Cookie is survived by her brother, Michael “Butch” Dianich, his 5 children, her 5 children, her Daughter-in-laws, Nancy, Nicki, Kim, Rona, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
What a legacy!
Her spirit and zest for life is imparted on all her family.
