EVELYN PERNER WEST'S OBITUARY
Longtime resident of the Linda Vista area of Pasadena, Evelyn West, died peacefully in her sleep on November 21st, 2014. Evelyn Perner was born on June 22nd, 1919 in Sierra Blanca, Texas. She was raised in El Paso, TX, where she graduated Salutatorian from Austin High School, and then attended the College of the Mines. She lost her father at the age of eight, and went to work making appointments at the local beauty parlor in order to help support her widowed mother and two younger sisters. She married Melmond West in 1935, and they raised three children. Evelyn was an outstanding mother and businesswoman, who gracefully combined the spheres of career and family. In an age when most woman did not work outside the home, Evelyn was a successful insurance broker who went on to become the National Planning Coordinator for Frank B. Hall Insurance Company, traveling to major cities all over the U.S. to oversee the establishment of new corporate offices. In 1973, she was named the Alaska Business Woman of the year. This amazing woman is also remembered as an outstanding cook adept seamstress who kept a lovely home, while somehow taking care of the young, the sick, and the dying. In short - she was a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who was loving and involved, who somehow managed to be everything to everyone, filling different roles at the same time, meeting the needs of so many, and making it look natural and easy at the same time. She was a lifelong Christian who was strong in her faith. She lived her beliefs. It is insufficient to say that Nana will not be forgotten - SHE WILL BE REMEMBERED. This beautiful & dynamic woman leaves behind her sister, Bette Livrano, three children, Thomas West, Pamela McKay, & Gregory West. Her legacy includes many nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Please join us in celebrating her life and honoring her memory. The viewing will be held from 6-9 pm on Monday, December 1st, at the Chapel of the Flowers. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, at 2 pm, at Forest Lawn Little Chapel of the Flowers in Glendale, CA.
