Evans Brasfield Jr.

April 1, 1962 — September 13, 2023

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evans Brasfield on Wednesday, September 13, following a serious motorcycle crash. Self-deprecating, funny, and incredibly humble, Evans was someone who found joy and love in everything he did. A pillar in the motorcycle community, Evans was a leader and role model.

He earned a BFA in cinematography and an MA in creative writing. He then worked in the film industry for several years between New York and Los Angeles, wrote for various motorcycle publications, and authored three books on bike modifications and safety. He later became Editor-in-Chief of Motorcyle.com.

He found something to like in everyone. He had a positive, optimistic personality which lit up every room he entered. In addition to being a prominent motojournalist, Evans was an enthusiastic runner, published author, passionate photographer, and avid skier. Above all, Evans was a family man who loved being a husband and father. He met his wife, Karin, at college 40 years ago. His daughters, Minna and Georgia, a college junior and high school sophomore, were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife Karin Rainey, daughters Minna and Georgia Brasfield, brother John Brasfield and his partner Wendy Cooley Leffingwell, nephew Ian Brasfield, sister Elizabeth Brasfield, niece Anne Burton and her son Braxton Burton, stepmother Anne Brasfield, stepsister Mollie Storey and her husband Scott, nieces Lucy and Daisy, stepbrother Randall Heilig and his wife Jen, nephews Preston and Charlie Heilig, father-in-law Joseph Rainey, Jr. and partner Linda Hewlett, brother-in-law Joseph Rainey, III, and partner Jahala Chrzan, and goddaughter Elizabeth Chisholm.
