Plaistow, NH: Evan Padraig Dube, age 19, died suddenly on May 19, 2012. He was one of ten students participating in the Shetland Islands Climate and Settlement Project, an ongoing archaeological research project funded by the National Science Foundation, involving scholars from Bates College and other higher education institutions. He collapsed and died suddenly following participation in the end of trip celebration in which students took a momentary plunge in the frigid waters off the Shetland Islands, Scotland.
Born in Exeter, NH, he is the cherished son of John and Eileen Dube and beloved twin brother of Conor Dube. He was a 2011 graduate of Timberlane Regional High School. Evan was an accomplished actor at Timberlane and Bates. He was proud to be a member of the Timberlane Players and was exceptional in his performances in numerous plays. He was President of the National Honor Society and was an accomplished Model UN participant. Evan was studying Classical and Medieval Studies at Bates College in Lewiston, ME and was just completing his freshman year.
Evan had a passion for life and compassion for all. He was known wherever he went for the joy that he spread. Although he spent most of his high school career dealing with a long-term tick borne infection, he considered the illness to be a great teacher and never complained. In the past year following treatment, he regained almost all of his health and was taking full advantage of every opportunity that came his way. He died as he lived, impetuously and joyfully diving in.
Evan is survived by his parents, his twin brother Conor, his girlfriend Kelly Flathers of Plaistow, his grandparents John and Mildred Dube of East Hampstead, and many aunts, uncles and cousins and the wider community that loved him.
